Selective reading of the Bible – A very vivid example

Simplifying the Gospel to create a “better version” that can be disseminated is a common practice. Selective reading of the Bible is often used to support the narrative.

Simplification of the Gospel

A simple example can illustrate what a situation can actually look like, or what the explanation is actually trying to convey. The Bible, the Word of God, is only read selectively by most Evangelical, Lutheran, Reformed, etc., churches. This must be the case simply because their often very extraordinary interpretations of prophecies and future events would need to be consistent rather than so inaccurate.

Catholic flocks, on the other hand, are (albeit reluctantly) encouraged to read the Bible, but figuratively speaking, they must always have the catechism at hand so that this “explanatory book” for the Bible and its rules, which simply override and alter God’s laws, can provide accompanying interpretation. For centuries, the interpretation of biblical prophecies has been the domain of the clergy’s “special forces.” When the Church still held its monopoly of power, possession of the Bible, even of individual chapter excerpts, was severely punished. This went as far as public burning at the hands of the compliant state.

First, of course, came the “painful interrogations.” Nothing other than the then-common term for hazing and torture. Naturally, these were subject to a fee, collected from the relatives of the tormented person. After all, “earning” the money, becoming ever richer and more influential, is the primary goal of the immensely greedy players in the Vatican City State, or rather, the Holy See.

Crafting your own gospel

A very suitable example to illustrate the principle of selectively reading verses or even just fragments of verses to support one’s own desired doctrine is Matthew 5:17-20. The theme of God’s law, specifically the Ten Commandments, is also relevant here. Are these still valid today, or completely unchanged and eternal, as promised in Psalm 119? Anyone who reads this biblical passage “soberly,” without prejudice, with open eyes and an open heart, will come to the following conclusion:

God’s law remains (of course) unchanged!Info

Matthew 5:17-20:Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

So that the desired gospel may be received

The result is the exact opposite of what Jesus Christ actually said. After all, it is primarily taught that God’s law has been abolished, even by the official churches in Germany (EKD), which were originally the Protestant churches. But that belongs to the past, because the Gospel foretells that it is the Protestant churches that will plunge back into absolute darkness, return to the mother church, the Roman Catholic Church, and appear as (soon to be violent) “false prophets.”

A part of Babylon (Revelation 19:20), filled to the ceiling with unclean spirits and unclean, hateful birds (Revelation 18:2). But this version is much more appealing and easier to “sell” to modern people who are inclined towards spiritualism.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2 Timothy 4:3-4
