The Commandments cannot be separated from God

God-Law

Deutsch

The law cannot be separated from God. The claim that God’s commandments have been abolished not only denies God’s existence, but also the true, living God of the Bible.

God’s laws from the beginning

God’s laws are eternal. They were in effect long before the first word of the Old Testament was written down by Moses. Abraham already knew the laws, for he gave the Lord a tithe of his income and kept God’s laws and statutes (Genesis 26:5). The result of his faith, and this, was credited to him as righteousness (Romans 4:3). God’s statutes were passed down orally from generation to generation before Moses. With the tablets of the law on Mount Sinai, God inscribed the Ten Commandments in stone with His own finger.

A majority of evangelical churches teach that these commandments were fulfilled with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and thus abolished. According to this view, God’s commandments are a “set of rules” of the Old Covenant. This covenant has been replaced by the New Covenant, and thus the laws have also been abolished.

A huge mistake

Code of law
God’s laws are simpler than is often claimed

The claim that laws have been abolished is a fallacy that couldn’t be worse. For without the law, sin no longer exists, and without sin, there would be no need for God’s grace. This also rendered Jesus Christ and His own blood sacrifice superfluous.

So why is man, for better or for worse, dependent on the Lord’s grace if the law, the standard, no longer had any validity? If Jesus Christ truly abolished the law, then all people after Him would have practically carte blanche. No more law, no more transgression, and therefore no more sin. But why still need grace? The claim that God’s laws are invalid is not only illogical but also quite ignorant.

There are three definitions of truth in the Bible (Info). The Word of God is truth (John 17:17), Jesus Christ is truth (John 14:6), and the law is truth (Psalm 119:142). Thus, the circle closes: Jesus Christ is the Word of God, and thus He is also the law.

This also explains the simple and direct statement of Jesus: “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)

But the latter has been “abolished”. This is absolutely incomprehensible. The Bible also contains a wealth of evidence that God’s laws are constant (Info).

It is often said that the entire Old Testament is no longer valid with the replacement of the Old Covenant and that the 10 Commandments are automatically eliminated. But this claim is also easy to refute, because all 10 commandments are also emphasized in one form in the New Testament (Info).

The law cannot be separated from God

New Testament
The Old and New Testaments belong inseparably together

Love cannot be separated from God. But neither can justice. Yet this is all too readily ignored in many churches. Justice requires a standard, and this is found in the law. Justice without a standard cannot exist, for then any decision (judgment) in the sense of a supposed “justice” would be purely arbitrary.

For this reason, along with love and justice, the law cannot be separated from God (Info). Anyone who claims to believe in God but still declares His laws to be invalid either believes in some other God than the God of the Bible, or simply refuses to obey God..

How does someone who declares the laws of God abolished explain the following statement by Jesus Christ? Matthew 5:18:
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Either he has to describe the statement as an invention of the authors and that would not be far from his belief, or he declares Jesus Christ to be a liar.

“Do what you want”?

Confetti party
Do what you want? This won’t last forever.

It’s obvious. God and His laws belong together.
The philosophy of “abrogated commandments” culminates in the idea that Jesus Christ took all sin upon Himself so that the laws could be abolished, and that every person could now do whatever they wanted. One need only claim to believe in Jesus Christ and one is saved.
“Do what thou wilt!” is the motto of Aleister Crowley (a Satanist), and thus very close to the philosophy of abrogated laws with unconditional grace according to the watering can principle.

And no! One cannot become righteous by keeping the laws. That would be works righteousness. But anyone who completely surrenders themselves and their life to our Lord Jesus Christ has the desire to keep the commandments and, thanks to God’s help, this will not be difficult. 1 John 5:3:

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
