Healthy Fasting – Why? What happens when you abstain from food?

The human body is very tolerant, but not infinitely patient. Deliberately abstaining from food for several days can certainly work “miracles” on a severely abused, i.e., poisoned, body. Fasting activates the body’s built-in mechanism for self-cleansing, repair, and restoration. An added benefit: a clear mind through not eating.

Why not the body like the “dear car”?

It’s considered normal to give your car or motorcycle the best the market has to offer. Naturally, pure fuel, reputable brand motor oil, select transmission oil, clear coolant, approved brake fluid, and, as soon as the outside temperature drops below 10°C, the thought of antifreeze. Of course, a regular check to see if the vehicle is in “perfect health” is also important. But as if humans were trees and derive nutrients from the surrounding air, specifically carbon dioxide, for the development and maintenance of the body, the choice of food is usually far less meticulous than the choice of operating fluids for your beloved vehicle.

It’s better to go for cheap junk food than to skip the “due change” of the motor oil when there’s still too much of the month left at the end of your budget. The term “junk food,” by the way, not only indicates the extremely low quality of the industrially processed “body fillers,” but also another, important aspect. Just as heroin addicts are also referred to in jargon as “junkies,” these “dead belly-filling drugs” also have a high potential for addiction.

If toxins are not eliminated

Toxins
Body needs detoxification

Just as filters in a car or motorcycle need to be cleaned or replaced regularly to ensure reliable operation, human metabolism naturally produces waste products that (actually) need to be removed as quickly as possible. However, since the body’s metabolic capabilities are limited, the organism can only concentrate on processing and distributing nutrients, or on cleansing and detoxifying the body.

The body’s cleansing, down to the individual cells, normally occurs during the night while sleeping. However, if the evening meal is too large and too late in the evening, the cleansing process is extremely poor. The stomach, intestines, and metabolism are too busy processing the food consumed for too long to devote to sorting out waste products and dead cells. Before this process is complete, the next meal follows with breakfast.

Things can become truly problematic when late and heavy dinners, late (insufficient) sleep, and early breakfasts become a habit. The body rarely, if ever, gets a real chance to break down the toxins. These waste products should ultimately be eliminated as quickly as possible. The amount of toxins accumulated in the body inevitably increases and eventually exceeds a critical limit.

This condition can ultimately develop into a disease. Chronic complaints may be simply dismissed as a “disease of civilization,” according to the motto, “that’s just the way it is these days.” Doctors and pharmaceutical companies are happy, because prescribed medications designed to “combat” symptoms (not the cause!) regularly have side effects. And so the (lucrative) spiral is set in motion.

This also applies to otherwise healthy food, as waste products are always produced during metabolism. Junk food would only exacerbate this problem, as toxins are not only produced through metabolism, but harmful substances are even more potentiated by the introduction of this industrial waste, which is labeled as food.

Nothing works without petrol – Not so with the body

However, the “natural” human body has one crucial advantage over the “beloved” vehicle. While the car simply stops working after running out of gas, the body is only just getting going. Filling up too much gas leads to overflow, while eating too much food leads to storage as fatty tissue around the enlarged belly button area. So, there are plenty of reserves there. But it could also be a crucial disadvantage.

End-Time
Body needs detoxification time

Because the body isn’t given time to detoxify when consuming too many calories in too short intervals, the organism provides temporary relief from the increasingly critical situation by storing and temporarily binding toxins in these fat cells. However, if an illness with feverish temperatures actually occurs, this backfires.

When a fever occurs, the body breaks down fat stores more rapidly, releasing the toxins embedded in them. Just when the body is already weakened by illness, an avalanche of toxins breaks out. This is one reason why very overweight people can experience far more difficulties with certain illnesses than their normal-weight counterparts.

When garbage is eaten

Lots of mass, zero class

The toxins stored in fat cells are even more problematic when the food consumed is “naturally” overloaded with toxins, as this is how it is intended. This is especially true for pork and shellfish. These species are garbage eater, practically a cleanup team. If you want a clean aquarium, simply add scampi and mackerel.

Crabs and crayfish also take care of dead aquatic animals lying on the bottom. These scavengers and dirt eaters, formed from their food, inevitably leave their mark on the path from the plate to the table, all the way to the fat cells of the body.

High tolerance not accidentally built in

For the evolutionist, this may be a “providence of an endless chain of coincidences” (Info), but for the believer who (still) values the Bible, the matter is clear. After all, God has clearly explained this timeless dietary rule for humankind (Info).

At least the human body is far more tolerant than the seemingly complex machinery of a vehicle. The oil warning light comes on sooner than the warning signs of emerging problems in humans. But in both cases, immediate action is required.

Help detoxify and renew the body

Fasting also has a spiritual effect. Devout Bible readers will therefore surely have come across a few verses highlighting fasting as particularly beneficial (more info).

Just as for the mind, “detoxification” is the top priority for the body. The “fuller the ribs,” the more urgent it is. Even people of normal weight who don’t give their bodies enough time to eliminate waste products are well advised to do a thorough spring cleaning. The magic word is “fasting”!

Fasting is less “conventional medicine”

Fasting isn’t very common in conventional medicine. The reason is understandable. Doctors themselves are rarely researchers and rely on what they’re told in educational institutions. They’re simply allowed to believe it and pass it on or act accordingly.

To ensure that these physicians, equipped with the best of knowledge and conscience, always stay up to date, they receive regular educational visits from representatives of pharmaceutical companies to present the latest, prescription-only, outrageously expensive industrial miracle cures. Fasting, however, isn’t included in any of their informational brochures, let alone as an alternative to their touted products.

Body has large reserves

Tea – A ‘limit’ during fasting

What a car engine never manages, the human body accomplishes with full force. Without fuel, the car slows to a standstill, while the body shifts gears and switches to another operating mode. And all this at full throttle.

In this sense, fasting actually means the complete abstinence from food. Only water or other sugar-free drinks are permitted. To prevent any hope from rising: no beer or other alcoholic beverages either! Tea or herbal infusions are good alternatives. “Lifeless” water can also be revitalized with lemon.

There are also other ways, such as the so-called keto diet, but this would not be identical and therefore not equivalent to completely abstaining from food.

Fasting starts a program in the body

During fasting, various processes occur in the human body in a specific sequence. Therefore, it is important to consider the duration of the fasting period. Furthermore, these processes vary in length and intensity from person to person. In addition to intermittent fasting, which is limited to abstaining from food for around 14-16 hours, fasting periods of 24, 36, 72, and 96 hours are also quite practical. However, to fully utilize the potential benefits of fasting, one should aim for at least 36 hours of food abstinence. However, as a “starter,” this does not need to be exceeded “by force.”

Possible benefits of fasting

Basically, fasting can bring the following benefits (Dr. Eric Berg DC):

  • Weight loss through the reduction of body fat
  • Breakdown of used-up or dead cells
  • Breakdown of “degenerated” cells (e.g., cancer)
  • Removal and elimination of (further) toxins
  • Regulation of insulin levels
  • Relief of inflammation
  • Brightening of the mind (against brain fog)
  • Reactivation of the immune system

It is recommended to supply the body with vitamins and minerals using appropriate supplements during fasting.

The body’s “fasting program”

The sequence of the body’s reactions to food deprivation for 5 days (24 hours each) can be as follows:

  • Within 24 hours: Depletion of glycogen reserves (from muscles and liver), including a proportion of water retention. “Motivation” through the first measurable weight loss. Insulin levels drop. Body switches to repair mode.
  • Within 48 hours: Transition to ketosis (fat burning). Hunger subsides. Depletion of expired or dead cells and their partial conversion for metabolism (recycling, body “eats itself”). Mind brightens. Depending on the amount of ketosis, hunger may already be subsiding.
  • Within 36 hours: Increased ketosis. Expansion of the breakdown of toxins and dead cells, or their utilization through conversion. Pathogens trapped in cells are eliminated. Beginning of regeneration of the immune system. The brain becomes more alert, and mood brightens. Even brain cell renewal is possible.
  • Within 48 hours: Transition to maximum fat burning. Hunger is mostly gone. Previously atrophied DNA functions for strengthening the body are awakened. The body is in “survival mode.”
  • Within 72 hours: Increased rebuilding of new cells. Growth hormones also protect against loss of muscle mass.

Gently interrupt your fast

Small bites to start

Overall, during the first two days, the body’s processes don’t alternate, but rather experience a cumulative increase. Once the glycogen is depleted, this “program” is no longer needed. Instead, fat is targeted. To start with, a 36-hour fast can be the ultimate goal. Next time, add 12 hours. It’s certainly possible to increase it, far beyond a week.

It’s important not to celebrate the end of the fast with an overfilled plate (as usual?). Eat small meals, especially rich in valuable protein, with only moderate amounts of carbohydrates and fat. Ideally, the strict abstinence from eating should also serve as a prelude to a future reduction in dinner. You don’t want to overload your recently “overhauled” body with the same amount of food as usual late at night. A small plate full of sauerkraut and a fried egg is always more valuable than “wrapped” industrial body fillers.

Examples of video contributions about fasting

Numerous other doctors who have actually studied fasting extensively publish their findings, and, very importantly, also provide advice on when caution is advised during fasting (e.g., in cases of diabetes). There are also further details and tips not included in the above description, but which can certainly provide the body with further support in its self-healing and repair processes.
