“You can’t call everything radical”

The Swiss and green liberal politician Sanija Ameti published the result of her shooting skills with a firearm on Instagram. She used a well-known image of Mary and the baby Jesus as her target (Source). Apparently Ameti is an experienced shooter, because the numerous shots all landed in the heads shown. Many Catholic believers were horrified and you don’t necessarily have to be a Catholic to understand this. Because this process has a very special character, regardless of being a Christian or even appearing to be a Christian, because of the text written with the pictures, “Kill them!”.
In addition to her work as a Green Party politician, Ameti is also co-head of the organization “Operation Libero”. This sees itself as a “political movement that advocates for a cosmopolitan and forward-looking Switzerland” (Source).
After criticism increased significantly, Ameti deleted her Instagram post and posted an apology on Operation Libero. Accordingly, she acted without thinking and only later realized that the image had religious content. She admits the stupidity of her actions.
It’s a bit difficult
It is difficult to understand that such a well-known image as the mother-child image of Mary and the child Jesus is not recognized as a religious motif. It is difficult to convey such ignorance due to “limitless liberality”. The Jesuit and head of the Catholic university community in Zurich, Franz-Xaver Hiestand, argued relatively clearly. He criticized this action by the Green politician and also the environment of disrespectful use of religious symbols. He attests that the Ameti has a “shocking ignorance” towards Christian symbols and their meaning.
The Jesuit calls for a debate about the value of religions within society and the role of religious symbols. However, Hiestand makes it clear that this incident is not at all inconvenient to the ongoing agenda. Such excesses, no matter from which side or for what motive, are to be rejected. Nevertheless, they come at the right time for the “Roman moralists”. The resistance and also the disgust of the vast majority, which has long been “audible”, towards such “woke-liberal” ideologies continues to grow. The calls for morality, ethics, just plain decency are getting louder and louder. “Christian” values must apply again, otherwise society will quickly sink on a rainbow-colored water slide.
