Prayers only to the ceiling? The Bible gives an emotionless answer

Bibellesung

They don’t want to keep the commandments, but demand an answer from God. Prayers seem to be going to the roof. The reasons for this are unemotionally simple and explained by the Bible itself.

When Everything Seems Obdurate

Many Christians feel as if their prayers seem to be falling on deaf ears. “Nothing happens” after so many prayers have somehow only reached the ceiling. In such a case, several problems usually play a role simultaneously. The most obvious is the expectation of some kind of feelings. What kind of feelings should these actually be? Charismatic churches teach about experiential faith. One must feel the Holy Spirit, and God even answers specific questions.

One wonders where such a thing is described in the Bible. Nowhere is it found that people have to experience faith in any way. Jesus Christ also never said that feelings play any role at all. Therefore, anyone who expects a feeling based on their faith is already at least one foot on the wrong path, because their own heart follows its own rules and should never be trusted. (Info).

The gospel requires the use of one’s own brain, not the expectation and realization of any emotional surges. Test the spirits, even those that swirl around in your own head.

The Bible provides the answer

Perhaps the most crucial reason why prayers seem to disappear into nothingness is this completely “emotionless” fact. It can be found in Proverbs 28:9:
He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

This statement should especially be taken seriously by those who assume that all laws were abolished with the crucifixion and Jesus Christ. This is indeed the case for the ceremonial laws, but the (eternal) Ten Commandments are a completely different story. (Info). It is obvious that when laws are no longer valid, they are no longer observed or listened to.

Are God’s Laws Obsolete?

Here are two statements made long after Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension. James 2:10:
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
1 John 5:3:
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Keep the commandments, so one statement, and ALL commandments, so the other statement! It is very important to keep the commandments found in the Bible (Exodus 20, Deuteronomy 5) and not the variations taught by the Roman Catholic and most Protestant churches. (Info).

There are 10 commandments, not 8 or 9, but 10 that must be kept. Anyone who declares the entire set of commandments obsolete, or believes that one or another provision is irrelevant, must immediately expect that Proverbs 28:9 plays a significant role. This is precisely the simple logic that can only be grasped by using one’s own reasoning apparatus and not by any emotional outbursts.

Sabbath – One of the 10 Commandments

God has blessed and sanctified the 7th day of the week, the Sabbath (Genesis 2:2-3). This 7th day is one of the 10 Commandments, specifically the Fourth Commandment (Exodus 20:8-11). Proverbs 28:9, in the opposite sense, shows that God gives a special blessing to those who (also) keep the Fourth Commandment. God will guide them through His Holy Spirit in understanding the gospel and thus in truth.

Who are God’s servants?

Bible: Everyone is responsible for their own actions

It is strikingly striking that those religious groups that not only reject the Sabbath (almost all of them) but also consider the entire law (the Ten Commandments) invalid come up with the most imaginative interpretations of the Book of Revelation. Another simple (emotionless) consideration: Disregarding or rejecting God’s commandments is tantamount to rebellion against God. Would God ever call such a rebel “His servant”? Hardly.

It is Jesus Christ himself who explains for whom the prophecies in the Book of Revelation are intended, right at the beginning, in Revelation 1:1:
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

Short and sweet, and easy to understand. He had John write Revelation for His servants, not for rebels, the stubborn, and the unwilling. How far will God’s guidance through the Holy Spirit go in understanding the prophecies if His laws are being trampled underfoot? So it’s no wonder that stories like a secret pre-rapture before a seven-year tribulation period and a future, first-appearing “Antichrist” are popping up. (Info).

“Just” keeping God’s commandments

Sabbath endures

One would be tempted to bet that future observance of all the commandments, and especially the Sabbath commandment, as it is written, will lead to an understanding of the Word of God as it is actually written. This then also led to the realization that the “future Antichrist” has indeed been wreaking havoc for a good 1,700 years, sometimes spreading these stories that a majority of evangelicals today are falling for and falling for.

Proverbs 28:9 simply and directly explains that anyone who disregards God’s commandment, in whole or in part, whether willingly and against their better judgment, can pray until the last day. It will be of no use, for these prayers are an abomination to God.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
Proverbs 3:5-7
