Natural law cannot be separated from the Roman Catholic Church. It is part of its definition. Yet Hellenistic philosophy does not deviate all that far from Egyptian or Babylonian pantheism, because they share the same roots. One for the priesthood, the other for the common people.

Natural law deeply rooted
The Roman Catholic Church makes no secret of the fact that its social doctrine does not correspond to the standards of the Gospel, but rather originates from the spirit of Hellenistic natural law. Natural law as represented by the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle and officially integrated into the dogmas of the Church of Rome by “Saint” Thomas Aquinas. Man’s own reason and morality are the basis for coexistence, of course with the Pope as the supreme overseer and also the legislator.
The Diocese of Regensburg itself explains how Thomas Aquinas, one of the “most important theologians” in history, incorporated Aristotle’s philosophy into the Catholic faith (Source). After the ancient philosopher was “rediscovered”, Aquinas recognized that “every thing has a substance” within it, an inner being. The doctrine of substance and accident.
This also explains the transformation of bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ. The basis for the “doctrine of transubstantiation”, in which the Roman Catholic Church still claims that the wafer of dough actually transforms into the body and blood of Christ during the mass. (Info). The result is ultimately a “reasonable belief”.
Lion – Bear – Panther
In addition to the moral principles from the mind and heart of man, an immortal soul and the deification of man are official teachings according to the Roman Catholic catechism and thus correspond exactly to the three lies of the serpent in the Garden of Eden (Info).
As can be seen in the book of Daniel, chapter 7, the panther is assigned as a symbol to the ancient Greek Empire. A characteristic that is also given to the “beast from the sea” in Revelation 13 (Info). This beast has a panther’s body, the feet of a bear and the mouth of a lion. Bear and lion can also be identified. In Daniel 7, these animals represent Medo-Persia (bear) and Babylon (lion). The beast from the sea in Revelation 13 thus has the characteristics of Greece, Medo-Persia and Babylon.
Thales of Miletus (the Greek)

But does the mix of different philosophies, pagan teachings and structures really have completely different starting points? This is where the philosopher Thales of Miletus (also called Thales the Greek) comes into play. He was a natural philosopher and astronomer and is considered the originator of Hellenistic philosophy, on which Aristotle also based his view. Thales is considered a Greek philosopher, but was not himself a Greek. Historians are not in agreement about his origins. However, two origins are under debate. The first is Phoenician and the second possibility is “half Carian”. Mother Greek and father from Caria (today southwest Turkey).
Either Phoenician…
The differences between Phoenicia and Caria are not very far apart in terms of religion. Although Phoenicia does have a very interesting aspect. In the Bible, a prominent woman from a Phoenician noble family appears. The daughter of a Baal priest, Jezebel. The wife of Ahab, the king of northern Israel. She brought 250 Baal and 200 Ashera priests to Israel and was thus significantly involved in a massive apostasy among the people of Israel. King Ahab allowed this. The prophet Elijah was Jezebel’s declared archenemy. As can be seen from the epistle to the church of Thyatira (Revelation 2:18-29), Jezebel is a type of the Roman Catholic Church of the Papacy.
Born and raised in Phoenicia, Thales would certainly have been exposed to and influenced by the Baal cult, i.e. the worship of the sun god and pantheism in the context of numerous gods within nature.
…or half-Carians – whatever
The Carians were also convinced of numerous gods, including the “God of War” (Zeus Stratios) and the “God of Caria” (Zeus Karios). Archaeologists have discovered numerous close connections between the Carians and Egyptians. Carians were the first known to introduce mercenary warfare, i.e. to serve in foreign armies. This included Egypt and the Carian settlements that arose in Egyptian territory.
The Egyptian world of gods is also “filled” with numerous deities within nature and there too the sun plays the role of the zenith. Egypt is still considered the “source of wisdom” in the occult world today and the Gospel contains a corresponding hint as to whose “wisdom” this could be, Ezekiel 29:3:
“Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself.“
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter whether Thales came from Phoenicia or had connections with the Carians. He was, as we would say today, extremely well integrated and is therefore simply referred to as “the Greek”.
Thales of Miletus – A Pantheist
Thales himself explained his pantheistic worldview, as confirmed by ancient authors. The following quotes are from Diogenes Laertius:
“Thales lehrte, […] der Kosmos sei beseelt und voller Gottheiten.”
“Aristotle and Hippias state that he attributed a soul to the inanimate, referring to magnet iron and amber.“
“Thales was the first to call souls immortal.”
Aristotle also had very interesting things to say about Thales (Metaphysica 983b20f – Source):
“He therefore taught that the land also rests on water. The reason for this view was probably the observation that the food of all creatures is moist, that heat itself arises from it and lives from it; but what everything comes from is the origin of everything. If this was one reason for his view, another was the fact that the seeds of all creatures are of a moist nature, but water is the principle for the nature of the moist.
Some are of the opinion that the ancients, who lived long before the present age and were the first to think in mythical form, had the same assumption about substance. They described Oceanus and Tethys as the originators of the creation of the world and water as that by which the gods swear. […] Whether this really represents such an original view of substance may perhaps not be ascertainable. In any case, Thales is reported to have put forward this view of the supreme cause.“
Pope Francis and Assisi

Pope Francis made it clear how deeply rooted this understanding of natural law is in the Roman Catholic Church in his first speech to a delegation of business and political representatives on the occasion of World Youth Day 2023 in Lisbon. He spoke about “Gaia and Okeanos” (Info).
A philosophy that was also cultivated by Francis of Assisi. He spoke of “Sister Sun, Brother Moon” and is the spiritual mentor of the current Pope Francis, who presented the natural law philosophy in his encyclical “Laudato Si'” (Info).
Pantheism prepared for the common people
Thales of Miletus brings us full circle. Hellenistic philosophy is based on ancient Egyptian polytheism, which was spread throughout the world in the “religious slingshot” of Babylon. The elements can be found today in Hinduism, Buddhism, shamanism and also in the New Age. The idea of an eternally tormenting hell, as taught in Islam, also presupposes an immortal soul. The “divine human, immortal, and an existence for constant further development to higher levels”.
Instead of incomprehensible rituals and religious dictates by the local priests, they are simply prepared into a worldview for the everyday life of the “average mortal”. It also makes you feel good, because what could go wrong if you get a new chance in the next life despite your villainous life? On the Catholic side, you would have time until shortly before death to express your regrets and in the worst case scenario, you would “only” be sent to purgatory until everything is sorted out again. Even today, if you are wealthy, you will find the Roman Catholic Church wide open its arms if you leave your belongings to Rome in the “final hope”.
What once was will return
The age of (Hellenistic) reason, which not only accompanied the French Revolution but also triggered it, will experience a renaissance. What was called “fraternity” back then is called exactly the same today. Also promoted by Pope Francis in his encyclical “Fratelli Tutti” (Fraternity). The “beast from the abyss” is already looking out again (Info).
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
