The Church of Rome and its “firm” followers never tire of trying to bring the “man of sin” and “son of perdition” described in the Bible, or Anti-Christ for short, out of the firing line of the clear prophecy in the books of Daniel and Revelation . In this way you are very flexible and adapt the interpretation of revelation to the spirit of the times and the geopolitical situation. Russia is the beast from the sea and the whore of Babylon is Jerusalem.

Creativity began with the Counter-Reformation
With great persistence, and this somehow understandable, the prophetic statements of Revelation as well as the prophecies elsewhere in the Bible about the “whore of Babylon”, the “beast” and the “man of sin” in the time of the apostles up to and including Present and near future distracted from the clearly identifiable addressee. On the surface, the Revelation of John is explained as an incomprehensible and completely unimportant book of the “Apocalypse”. It is completely incomprehensible, the code key required for this is not available. Such apologies usually come from the institutional, once Protestant churches.
While circles of modern “scribes” say that the revelation concerns the long-ago period of the first century and was concluded with the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, at the latest with the Bar Kokhba revolt between the years 132 and 136, try The Catholic “theologians” are concerned with the creation of a completely different story than what Revelation explains.
Jesuits set the starting point
It was already the Jesuits Francis Ribera, Robert Cardinal Bellarmine and Luis del Alcázar who created their own stories around the prophecies of Revelation. In 1590, Ribera published a “commentary” (“In Sacrum Beati Ioannis Apostoli & Evangelistiae Apocalypsin Commentarii”) on the Book of Revelation, which, at a good 500 pages, was larger than the Revelation itself.
The intention behind it was obvious. The first reformers identified the papacy as the anti-Christ described in many places in the Bible, or the “man of sin”, the “son of perdition” (Info).
Ribera simply placed the “Anti-Christ” in the future (“Futurism”), Bellarmine added a few more details and Alcázar invented the completely opposite version of a long-gone Anti-Christ (“Preterism”), in the former ruler of the Greek Empire, Antiochus IV Epiphanes. This took the papacy out of the firing line and presented people with opposing versions so that they could argue about them extensively.
Easily recognizable style
The Protestants’ explanations were simply labeled as “confused ideas” from “brainless fantasists.” Precisely in the well-known style that can also be found today, in order to discredit uncomfortable contemporaries and destroy them socially. Above all from the pens of the Jesuits, such as Georg Holzhai (1571 – 1646), Carl Stengel (1581 – 1663) and Johann Kraus (1694 – 1732). It’s just the same handwriting (Info).
Most of it has been taken over from fairy tales
Unfortunately, the Jesuit ideas bear (rotten) fruit. Most of the evangelical world today assumes a “pre-rapture” before the start of a 7-year tribulation period. The “Anti-Christ” will come, sit down in the temple of God and first rage around vigorously. Then Jesus Christ will come (again) to ultimately flatten the Anti-Christ and then establish a 1000-year kingdom of peace.
The historical trajectory of this “1000 and 1 Nights Story” can be easily traced. Well-known figures were involved, especially in Protestant circles (Info). The fact that there will not be a 1000-year empire on earth is clear from the Bible alone (Info).
The special role at this point is once again played by the Roman Catholic Church itself. There is neither a future 1000-year kingdom of peace on earth nor a kingdom of heavenly peace. Because in its self-image this church is the body of Christ and has itself represented this kingdom of peace with a zenith of its power that lasted around 1000 years. Now it is “only” a matter of restoring this former “empire of peace”.
Flexible prophecy customization
When it comes to interpreting the prophecies, “strict followers” of the Roman Church show themselves to be very flexible. The predictions written down around 2,000 years ago are simply adapted to the spirit of the times and the geopolitical circumstances of the present. Such a sample example has some special features, some of which seem quite strange.
It begins with the introductory headline “The beast destroys the whore“. It will be shown below that this statement in the Bible has been reformulated and therefore cannot be correct.
The purple and scarlet Jerusalem
“A major role in the apocalypse and the end of civilization is played by the ‘Whore of Babylon’, who is drunk with the ‘blood of the saints’ and the ‘blood of the witnesses of Jesus’, who has seduced all the rulers of the earth and has dominated and corrupted the world.“
This passage corresponds to the verses Revelation 17:2;6. This interpretation of prophecy then quotes other important statements.
“She is dressed in purple and scarlet and holds in her hand a golden chalice filled with the vile filth of her fornication“
This corresponds to Revelation 17:4. However, not yet fully quoted at this point. A few important details are missing. The following is the complete verse 4:
“And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:“
The colors of the clothing provide an important clue because this also determines what a woman actually means in prophecy.
Jerusalem is practicing “fornication”
“And one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke to me, saying, Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits by many waters, with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication; and those who dwell on the earth have become drunk with the wine of their fornication.“
This time a complete presentation of verses 1 and 2 from Revelation 17. This is followed by a presentation of verses 3 to 6. However, verse 6 is not quoted in full:
“And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus.“
Below is the complete verse 6 and also verse 7 for context:
“6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.“
The details make the difference
The Bible does not contain any formulations or stylistic devices that are intended to improve the “reading experience”. Every statement has a meaning or a concrete meaning. John was surprised about this woman and the angel even emphasizes this with his question. This woman that John saw was the former woman in Revelation 12. With a woman within prophecy, it is basically a community or church.
The Bible is clear on this, because the definition of the symbols used does not require any third-party interpretation, but only a lookup in the same Bible, in which a symbol is given the meaning (symbols in Revelation and their meaning presented by the Bible itself – here).
John marveled that this woman (Revelation 12), the first church with her offspring from the tribe of Judah (Jesus Christ) of Israel, pursued by the dragon, has now apparently become a whore (Revelation 17). The angel finally announces to John that he will explain the “mystery of this woman and the beast”.
All non-Catholics “out there”
At this point the author of the (Catholic) interpretation goes straight into the “offensive defensive”:
“Virtually every non-Catholic out there enthusiastically tells you that Rome or the Vatican is the whore of Babylon and then basks in complacency. This unbiblical nonsense comes from Protestants all the time.“
With this statement, the author has exposed himself as a polemicist, completely lacking in objectivity. The completely undifferentiated portrayal of “every non-Catholic” does not correspond to reality at all.
The author would only need to make an effort to look around the Working Group of Christian Churches (ACK). An ecumenical organization with all Evangelical Churches in Germany (EKD) as well as a large number of free churches. Finally, the Roman Catholic Church is also included in this round. None of these ACK members take the position that the Church of Rome is the Whore of Babylon. As a member of the ACK, that would even be a disqualification.
The fact that the author apparently sees himself in a lighthouse inside a trench with a cheese bell placed on it is indicated by the author himself using the phrase “out there”.
Let Jerusalem be the whore of Babylon
The author who reproduces this interpretation of Revelation now becomes specific himself.
“And the woman whom you saw is the great city that has dominion over the kings of the earth.“
With this the author cites the last verse 18 in Revelation chapter 17. For him it was clear which city it was:
“Further arguments showing that the ‘Whore of Babylon’ is Jerusalem, before the command ‘Come out of her, my people, lest ye be partakers of her sins, lest ye receive of her plagues!’ (Revelation 18:4) is highlighted:
‘And their bodies will lie in the streets of the great city, which in the spiritual sense is called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was also crucified.’ (Revelation 11:8):
Here Jerusalem is clearly described as a pavement for sin and compared to ‘Sodom’.“
The derivation of Jerusalem seems quite far-fetched. If you read it in context, the call in Revelation 18:4 does not concern the “Whore of Babylon” in isolation, but rather the entire structure of “Babylon”. (Info). This apostate woman is “merely” the whore within this Babylon.
The “spiritual” is simply ignored
The author adds a statement from Revelation 11. Although he himself explains that this “great city” is called Sodom and Egypt in the spiritual sense, he automatically concludes that it is Jerusalem, where Jesus Christ was crucified not in the spiritual sense, but literally. The verse itself says it, “in a spiritual sense.” What does Sodom stand for? For fornication. What does Egypt stand for? For godlessness or atheism. This refers to Pharaoh’s statement to Moses that he “did not know the God of Israel and therefore did not want to obey him.”
In the literal sense, Egypt cannot be linked to Jerusalem. The verse thus describes a symbolic crucifixion of Jesus within a city full of fornication. Locally, this was definitely Paris during the French Revolution. Revelation 11, read in context, describes the killing of two witnesses by the beast from the bottomless pit (Info). In France, during the revolution, all religion was completely banned for a period of 3.5 years.
The author of this Revelation thesis also failed to put parts of the extremely important passage verses 8 and 9 of Revelation 17 into context. This shows a historical sequence of the “beasts” in which the papacy plays an essential role (Info).
Jerusalem is the city chosen by God. Revelation 21 also speaks of a new Jerusalem. The temple stood in Jerusalem, 1 Chronicles 6:32:
“And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem: and then they waited on their office according to their order.“
The strange interpretation of Revelation turns the “City of God” into a colorful whorehouse. A typical reversal that is already common in the church of Rome.
Interim balance sheet
Based on this Catholic author’s previous portrayal, the “Whore of Babylon” was the lewd Jerusalem, “clothed in purple and scarlet,” full of precious stones and gold, which distributes a cup of lewdness to all the kings of the world. Egypt doesn’t even find an explanation. Does that make any sense? What organization in this world stands out because of its members dressed in purple and scarlet, whose buildings are covered to the ceiling with gold and splendor? This is almost reflexively reminiscent of the church in Rome.
The (yet) not widow
“‘I am enthroned as queen and am not a widow and will see no suffering.’
This refers to Jerusalem, where the bridegroom Jesus was murdered on the cross, leaving Jerusalem a widow. Jerusalem is referred to as a widow in the Old Testament, such as in the Lamentations.
‘How lonely the city now sits, which was so heavily populated! She has become a widow, she who was great among the nations; the Princess of the Capitals has now become payable for interest!’ (Lamentations 1:1)“.
The author simply turns the statement in Revelation 18:7 around with his eyes open, leaves out an important part, and apparently hopes that this will not be noticed. Revelation 18:7 in full:
“How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.“
According to this author, Jerusalem enthroned as a queen, lived in opulence and glorified herself. In addition, the author correctly states that Jerusalem was once a widow, but the verse clearly describes this city or woman as “not a widow”. So the exact opposite. Is there an organization that calls itself the leader, glorifies itself and does not look like a (lonely) widow because of many daughters? The church of Rome could definitely be considered here. The church that calls itself the “mother of all churches”.
Merchants swapped for Christians
“‘And they cast dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and mourning, ‘Woe, woe! the great city… (Revelation 18:19)
‘Ashes on the head’ is a Jewish ritual performed during mourning or defeat. It is clearly recorded in the book of Joshua:
‘But Joshua tore his clothes and fell on his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD until evening, he and the elders of Israel, and they cast dust on their heads.’ (Joshua 7:6)
‘…and the light of the lampstand will shine no more in you…’ (Revelation 18:23)
In every synagogue a light burns day and night, which is not the case in churches and mosques at night.
These descriptions point to a city where the gospel is being spread by Christians. Jerusalem is also the city where Jesus, as the Son of God, spoke his word with a human voice. The voice of God was in Jerusalem.“
Individual verses placed in a new context
Here the author has obviously collected the verses together in order to put them together into a partial picture according to his own ideas. Revelation 18:19 is once again only presented in fragments:
“And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.”
In addition to the judgment described, Revelation 18 also focuses on the economic influences of Babylon. To do this, “only” Revelation 18 needs to be read in the context that Babylon made the merchants of the earth rich. Verse 19 is exactly about these merchants. They must face the destruction of Babylon’s wealth along with her whore, and with it their own wealth. They are not mourning residents of Jerusalem, but the merchants of Babylon.
As far as the lighting of the churches is concerned, the author should simply leave his “trenches” late in the day and visit such a building. As a rule, he will see it illuminated with floodlights from far away. Added to this are the countless liturgies of the Roman Church, which of course require lighting and keeping one or more candles burning. Islam knows the so-called “mosque light”. A lamp that also lights up for prayers at night. One wonders what the author is even talking about.
It can’t mean Rome
“By the way, this description indicates that the ‘Whore of Babylon’ cannot be Mecca, Rome or New York, because Jesus was never in Mecca, Rome and New York and preaching the gospel is forbidden in Mecca.“
In fact, the “Whore of Babylon” is certainly not Mecca or New York. Does the person performing this interpretation of revelation have little idea about when Islam and the sanctuary of Mecca even existed?
The founder of Islam, Mohammed, was born in Mecca in the year 570. The emergence of Islam took place between 610 and 632. At the age of 25, Mohammed married his first wife, Chadīja bint Chuwailid, who was 40 years old at the time. She had already been married twice before and was the scion of an extremely rich Roman Catholic trading family. The ban on spreading the gospel in Mecca did not occur until the 7th century.
Peter describes Rome as Babylon
Jesus Christ was never in Mecca, never in New York (founded in 1624) and never in Rome. That’s correct. But Peter was in Rome, even the Roman Church would never deny that, because they claim to be able to point to Peter as the “first pope”. Peter wrote letters to the church from Rome. It says in 1 Peter 5:13:
“The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.”
Peter is in Rome and describes his current seat as “Babylon”. Interesting.
It is remarkable how the author dismantles his own credibility based on the “careless” argument by collecting individual scraps of verses. It is even more remarkable when a reader sat back satisfied and now felt enlightened. A distinct characteristic of those believers who cling to a church that feeds its dogmas from traditions of its own making.
Jerusalem only city that killed prophets?
“‘… and in her was found the blood of the prophets and saints and of all those who were killed on the earth.’ (Revelation 18:24)
Jerusalem killed the prophets before Christ; no other city has done that. Jesus said:
‘Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill and stone the prophets who are sent to them; How often have I wanted to gather your children, like a hen gathering her chicks under her wings, but you didn’t want to!’ (Luke 13:34)“
True. Jesus Christ complained about the rebelliousness of the Judeans in Jerusalem, who represented the (remaining) chosen people. Over the past centuries they have refused to take the right path. The prophets were sent by God to exhort, stir up, and proclaim the Word of God. They were driven away, persecuted and sometimes even killed by their own people.
However, the author’s claim that no other city killed the prophets is untruth or a lie. Before Jerusalem fell, the city of Samaria fell 800 years earlier. Once the capital of northern Israel, after the division of Israel as a whole. After the end of King Solomon’s reign, Israel split into two parts. Rehoboam became king over southern Israel (Judah, Benjamin) with capital Jerusalem and Jeroboam became king over northern Israel (10 tribes) with capital Samaria. Elijah was one of the most prominent prophets in Samaria. He was pursued by Jezebell, the wife of the then King Ahab. 1 Kings 18:4:
“For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)“
Clear announcement. Jerusalem was NOT the only city that persecuted and killed its prophets. You can save yourself the details because this exposes another untruth on the part of the author.
“Jerusalem, city on 7 hills”
“‘The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples and companies and nations and languages.’
‘The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits’
Jerusalem sits on 7 hills.‘
You just need to enter the keywords “city on 7 hills” into the search engine and the result will sometimes be Istanbul, but first and foremost, and in different variations, the city of Rome. Traditionally, Rome is the city on 7 hills and this is not a coincidence, but due to the fact that Rome is literally built between 7 hills. Not 6 or 8, but 7. Jerusalem is located “up” in a mountainous region. There are “many hills” there. You could also build a city somewhere in the Dolomites of the Alps, randomly choose 7 peaks and then call it the “city in the 7 peaks”.
The 7 hills of Rome are well known and have even been given a name. These are called Capitol, Viminal, Palatine, Esquiline, Aventine, Quirinal and Caelius.
The explanation for verse 15 of Revelation 17, the harlot at the waters, is completely missing. The verse also explains that the symbol water represents peoples, nations and ethnic groups. One wonders what role the city of Jerusalem could play here. If an institution is represented and works in (almost) all peoples, nations and ethnic groups, it is the Church of Rome, but not Jerusalem.
Mixture of symbolic beasts
“‘And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads blasphemous names. And the beast that I saw was like a panther, and his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth was like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon (=Satan) gave him his strength and his throne and great power. And I saw one of its heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and its mortal wound was healed.’ (Rev. 13:18).“
Apparently there was a typo here. The verses mentioned are Revelation 13:1-3.
“‘The beast that you saw was and is no more, and it will come up from the bottomless pit and perish; and those who dwell on the earth, whose names are not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will marvel when they see the beast that was and is not and yet is.’“
What the author neglected to say about the “Whore of Babylon” he uses here as a link to the beast from the sea. The beast that comes out of the bottomless pit in the second verse mentioned is the verse Revelation 17:8. In context, it is not completely out of place, but still in an important context that needs to be understood so that the prophecy of Revelation does not become confusing. But that is specifically the case here. An arbitrary combination of two verses from different chapters, taken completely out of context. The first verse speaks of the “beast from the sea” and the second verse speaks of the “beast from the bottomless pit”.
Although both beasts have in common that Satan is behind them as the giving and driving force, they nevertheless show different ways of acting in different circumstances and at different times. The Bible is not a novel with designs for a varied reading experience, but rather a prophetic book, especially in Revelation. Every representation there has an individual meaning. Thus, the “beast from the sea” is not identical to the (scarlet) “beast from the bottomless pit.”
Russia – The Beast from the Sea
“The beast is communism, which was believed to have been overcome, personified in Russia. Who was believed to be dead, lurked secretly and will openly revive again – to the astonishment (horror) of all the world: The communist long-term strategy.“
This is truly a “contemporary” interpretation. The author of this presentation of revelation overlooks further details. The beast from the sea has crowns on its horns. The dragon (Satan) has the crowns on his head in Revelation 12. In Revelation 13 the crowns are on the horns and in Revelation 17 the beast no longer has any crowns on. As noted above, the Beast from the bottomless pit in Chapter 11 emerged during the French Revolution. The result of this revolution was the abolition of monarchies in Europe. Kingdoms became republics. The crown in Revelation symbolizes royalty.
In Revelation 13 the beast has the horns (rulers) and these wear crowns, i.e. royal rulers. In Revelation 17, these crowns are gone. They are therefore rulers “like kings” who have not yet received a kingdom (Revelation 17:12). These will give the beast power.
Nothing fits together at all
Associating the crowned beast with “Communist Russia” is outrageous. Communism and monarchy are mutually exclusive. In addition, Russia and the Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) are a Christian constellation.
It was the Church of Rome itself that spoke of the healing of a fatal wound. This was added to her in February 1798 with the deposition of Pope Pius IV by General Berthier. Ordered by Napoleon. The Church made great progress in healing this wound with the founding of Vatican City in February 1929. This gave the papacy back its official status as a state power, which was lost in 1798.
Russia is also often symbolized as a bear. However, around 2000 years ago, the Bible did not use the symbol of the bear for the state of Russia, but rather as a characteristic of the former empire of Medo-Persia. This also applies to the lion mentioned in the same verse, which represents the former empire of Babylon. The panther symbolizes the empire of Greece. You can read everything in the book of Daniel, chapter 7 (Info).
The beast depicted stands on the structures of Medo-Persia (bear), teaches the teachings of Babylon (lion) and embodies the philosophy of ancient Greece (panther). Coincidentally, the Church of Rome is structured (curia) according to the model of ancient Medo-Persia, whose Catholic social teaching is based on natural law (Hellenism) and the teachings proclaim the dogmas of ancient Babylon (including sun worship). This is wrapped up in actually practiced Mithraism (Info).
Final destruction of the whore of Babylon
“From chapter 17 of Revelation we know that the ‘beast with ten kings’ will destroy the ‘harlot of Babylon’:
‘And the ten horns which you saw, and the beast, these will hate the harlot, and will make her lonely and naked, and will consume her flesh, and burn her with fire.’ (Revelation 17:16)“
You don’t really know who the actor in this interpretation of Revelation means by “we” who are supposed to know. It seems that the author believes he is in the majority opinion. However, this requires correction. Following Revelation 17:16 according to the Bible:
“And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.“
There are a few significant differences. What is striking is that the author speaks of horns AND the beast, both of which together will destroy the whore of Babylon. However, the Bible does not speak of this. Scripture describes the horns that are ON the beast, i.e. the assignment of which horns it is concerned with. The kings will therefore NOT destroy the harlot along with the beast.
After all, the kings had already given up their power to the beast in advance. The author’s erroneous presentation prevents the visibility of the papacy in two aspects. One is the church power (woman/whore) and the other is the state power (beast). This beast in Revelation 17 even carries the woman on its back. An aspect that the author completely “forgot” to mention.
This automatically means that it is not Jerusalem that will be destroyed within an hour, but rather the construct of Babylon based in Rome.
Summary
- Purple and scarlet are not aspects of Jerusalem, but of the papacy
- Gold and precious stones, wealth and opulence are not aspects of Jerusalem, but of the papacy
- Representation in all peoples, nations and languages are not aspects of Jerusalem, but of the papacy
- Merchants’ wealth from Babylon is not an aspect of Jerusalem, but of the Papacy
- A trail of blood (murdering prophets and saints) is not an aspect of Jerusalem, but of the papacy
- The status of widow were aspects of Jerusalem, but not of the papacy (will not be a widow)
- The city between 7 hills does not apply to Jerusalem, but to Rome
- The characteristics of a lion, bear and panther are not aspects of Jerusalem, but of the papacy
- Rule over the kings of the earth are aspects neither of Russia nor Jerusalem, but of the papacy
- The fatal wound that heals again is not aspects of Russia, but of the Papacy
It should actually be clear that the theses of the performer of the interpretation of Revelation, some of which are easily refutable, are simply intended to turn people’s eyes towards Jerusalem and away from Rome and the activities of the papacy. Just as the Jesuit order was already intent on destroying Protestantism and, above all, their recognition of the papacy as the anti-Christ when it was founded, this attempt at diversion also applies to this approach.
Few people check
Unfortunately, few people make the effort to independently and responsibly verify any claims. In this case, it’s actually very easy to do, because the Bible is available for free on the Internet and in book form for little money. Accessible to everyone at any time of the day or night.
And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
