In the focus of Leo XIV – Sunday and the human family

A new, fresh wind in the Vatican? Pope Leo XIV will by no means change the direction of the Church. He explicitly emphasized “Rerum Novarum” and “Gaudium et spes,” products of Leo XIII and Vatican II. The new pontiff will also advance the unification of humanity under Sunday.

Another “Leo”

The name Leo comes from Latin and means lion. When a pope chooses this name, it is up to each individual to speculate whether it is meant to refer to the lion of the tribe of Judah, or rather the lion with two wings according to Daniel 7. A clue to this could be Peter’s first letter. In his letter to his fellow church members during his stay in Rome, he conveyed greetings from “Babylon” (1 Peter 5:13).

PIn his first address to the College of Cardinals, Pope Leo XIV revealed that he chose his name in succession to Pope Leo XIII. In keeping with the spirit of the encyclical “Rerum Novarum” (1891) and also the pastoral constitution “Gaudium et Spes” (1965), a product of the Second Vatican Council.

The new Pontiff has already proclaimed his first messages of peace. On May 12, 2025, Leo XIV also called on the delegation of leading media representatives from around the world gathered before him to rid the media, especially social media, of “violence.” He apparently leaves the assessment of what constitutes “violence or hatred” to the media. This is simply another language for the term “censorship.”

There were a few striking Leos

The current Leo is already the 14th. Alongside a few insignificant Leos who remained unnoticed, there were also some outstanding figures. Among the notable Leos is Pope Leo III. Appointed head of the church on December 26, 795, he crowned Charlemagne emperor just five years later. This marked nothing less than the founding of the Western medieval empire (Holy Roman Empire), a state entity with the Pope as the supreme leader.

Leo IX (1049 to 1054) initiated the Eastern Schism. The division between the Western Church (Rome) and the Eastern Church (Byzantium).

Leo X is another notable namesake. His pontificate lasted from 1513 to 1521. He was the pope during the Reformation, triggered by Martin Luther in 1517. A church leader from the House of Medici wasn’t even a priest. He excommunicated Martin Luther in the spring of 1521 and left the church with a gigantic mountain of debt, primarily to the Fugger banking family.

During his pontificate from 1823 to 1829, Pope Leo XII was particularly notable for his condemnation of membership in Bible societies.

A few key points from “Rerum Novarum”

If Pope Leo XIV emphasizes his spiritual succession to Leo XIII and his encyclical “Rerum Novarum” so much, it would be worthwhile to take a look at this letter. Published on May 15, 1891 (Source).

Pos. 41:

From this follows the obligation of the cessation from work and labor on Sundays and certain holy days. The rest from labor is not to be understood as mere giving way to idleness; much less must it be an occasion for spending money and for vicious indulgence, as many would have it to be; but it should be rest from labor, hallowed by religion. Rest (combined with religious observances) disposes man to forget for a while the business of his everyday life, to turn his thoughts to things heavenly, and to the worship which he so strictly owes to the eternal Godhead.

It is this, above all, which is the reason arid motive of Sunday rest; a rest sanctioned by God’s great law of the Ancient Covenant-“Remember thou keep holy the Sabbath day,”(31) and taught to the world by His own mysterious “rest” after the creation of man: “He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

The outstanding importance of Sunday is clearly emphasized. It is the central focus of the Roman Catholic Church, not only for the celebration of its Mass, but also for the “good of humanity.” Leo XIII already resorted to misleading tactics by associating the biblical Sabbath with Sunday. This Sunday observance, promoted by the Roman Church, is not only tradition, but programmatic from the beginning and will be maintained until the “final end” (Info).

Pos. 16:

But We affirm without hesitation that all the striving of men will be vain if they leave out the Church. It is the Church that insists, on the authority of the Gospel, upon those teachings whereby the conflict can be brought to an end, or rendered, at least, far less bitter; the Church uses her efforts not only to enlighten the mind, but to direct by her precepts the life and conduct of each and all; […] and considers that for this purpose recourse should be had, in due measure and degree, to the intervention of the law and of State authority.

The Church and its members, the so-called mystical body of Christ, and Mary as the Mother of Christ and thus also of the Church. Divinity is transferred, so to speak, to the Church of Rome, and in this self-image, this institution believes it can and must intervene in state authority to a “reasonable extent.” Such ambitions are understandable, for its megalomania to rule over the entire earth is inherent in the Church of Rome..

Pos. 52:

And here we are reminded of the confraternities, societies, and religious orders which have arisen by the Church’s authority and the piety of Christian men […] In their religious aspect they claim rightly to be responsible to the Church alone. The rulers of the State accordingly have no rights over them, nor can they claim any share in their control; on the contrary, it is the duty of the State to respect and cherish them, and, if need be, to defend them from attack.

According to this, the state has no authority to intervene in any way in the legal sphere of the Church, including as represented in the aforementioned religious orders. This is inviolable. In return, however, the state is obligated to promote and protect church institutions. This, of course, is not done with church funds, but rather with the help of public tax revenue.

Gaudium et spes – Vatican II

Protests Ukraine War
Calls for peace also from the Vatican

During the Second Vatican Council, the Church of Rome set a new course. However, the goal remained unchanged, as did the doctrine once established in “infallibility.” It was simply a matter of adapting the paths to the new social realities and thereby advancing ecumenism with greater effectiveness.

The letter “Gaudium et spes”, also emphasized by Pope Leo XIV, is a pastoral constitution, drawn up by the Second Vatican Council and published on December 7, 1965, by Pope Paul VI (Quelle). Based on Hellenistic natural law.

Pos. 40:

Coming forth from the eternal Father’s love,(2) founded in time by Christ the Redeemer and made one in the Holy Spirit,(3) the Church has a saving and an eschatological purpose which can be fully attained only in the future world. But she is already present in this world, and is composed of men, that is, of members of the earthly city who have a call to form the family of God’s children during the present history of the human race, and to keep increasing it until the Lord returns.

Here, it is (once again) clarified who, or rather what, the Church of Rome actually considers itself. It is already the earthly kingdom of Christ (which Christ? Info) to bring salvation to humanity in this world.

However, the “Lord” expected by this Church is clearly not the Jesus Christ described in the Gospel, as Joseph Ratzinger, later Pope Benedict XVI, confirmed in his open letter to the Jewish communities in 2001. It is a “Messiah who will have the features of Jesus.” (Source).

Jewish messianic expectation is not in vain. It can become for us Christians a powerful stimulant to keep alive the eschatological dimension of our faith. Like them, we too live in expectation. The difference is that for us the One who is come will have the traits of the Jesus who has already come and is already present and active among us.

Pos. 41:

The Church, therefore, by virtue of the Gospel committed to her, proclaims the rights of man; she acknowledges and greatly esteems the dynamic movements of today by which these rights are everywhere fostered.

Believing itself to be the divine representative on earth, the Roman Church is floundering in its own notion of being able to define and enforce human rights. This formulation, always expressed in a positive sense, also means that it can deny corresponding rights. This, combined with its commitment to directing state powers accordingly, means that nothing stands in the way of the connection between church and state.

Pos. 69:

If one is in extreme necessity, he has the right to procure for himself what he needs out of the riches of others.

Shaped by the spirit of Hellenistic humanism, but not by the Gospel. A prime example of how “papal-divine morality” generally directly contradicts the laws of God. Poverty and need give no person the right to take what they desire from those who have it. Specifically, this “papal wisdom” clashes directly with the Tenth and also the Eighth Commandments (Info). “You shall not covet!” and “You shall not steal!”

This euphony of “human justice” is actually exactly what it actually means. The “justice of man,” shaped by his self-expressed morality and judgment, capable of distinguishing between good and evil. This is precisely the Babylonian wine that all kings and peoples of the earth are now drinking to their heart’s content (according to Luther’s language) and have become completely drunk. (Info).

The church’s agenda remains unchanged

Pope Leo XIV won’t really bring a breath of fresh air, let alone a change of direction. One must simply avoid the mistake of considering the Roman Church’s agenda in the short or medium term; rather, one must view it over a long period of time. A very good description of this is provided by the Book of Books and its prophecies.

The new Pontiff will also strive to unite humanity into a unified family. Together, they will achieve (apparent) peace, preserve creation, and ultimately worship a completely false deity. The united human family, peacefully gathered every Sunday (Info).

And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
