When temptation comes in a roundabout way. Statements that completely contradict the gospel rarely come in a brute-force fashion, but rather regularly in beautifully decorated packaging, in melodious words, coated with love-filled euphoria, touching the emotions and, above all, appealing to the human sense of justice.

Flowery language with honey around the mouth
There are indeed very subtle ways to package the secret rejection of Jesus Christ, or rather the denial of His divinity and also His capacity as “master craftsman” of all creation, into the melodious words of the “convinced believer.” Added to this is an exaggerated emphasis on God’s love, but with the omission of His justice. God is said to be incapable of harming His creation in any way, let alone destroying it. Love would not allow this. It even goes so far as to claim that God actually has nothing to do with our world, for otherwise it would look very different. But since evil exists in abundance, God cannot have any part in this world at all.
If God were to judge, He would be judging against Himself and thus destroying Himself, according to another argument. To first create and then ultimately judge against one’s own creation is “insane” and “schizophrenic.” After all, everything comes from Him and through Him.
Passion that creates suffering

If only God’s love is considered, but not His eternal justice, then one can certainly develop such a “passionate” faith. Thus, one readily ignores the clear references in the Bible. Justified by the further view that the Bible was “written by man,” in which only personal impressions were incorporated. Thus, one elegantly keeps a joker open by simply picking out the appropriate material to declare it credible, and dismissing biblical statements that contradict one’s own theses as mere human figments of the imagination.
The fragment “all things are from Him and through Him” already contains a fundamental error. Jesus Christ is excluded. No surprise that the Bible has a different statement, Colossians 1:15-17:
“Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.“
Jesus Christ is reduced
As far as Jesus Christ is concerned, he possesses the role and attributes equivalent to a literally begotten or created being. This would place this “theology” on the level of Roman Catholicism, or even on the level of Jehovah’s Witnesses, who declare Jesus Christ to be a created angel with special priority. Under no circumstances should Jesus Christ be worshipped, according to a “belief.” Even here, one statement from the Bible is sufficient to refute this: Matthew 2:11:
“And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.“
In addition, there are other clear statements in Scripture that testify to the nature of Jesus Christ, going far beyond what the proponents of artificial reductions try to convey (Info).
It’s pure speculation whether these “passionate believers” are themselves merely blind people who want to lead other blind people, or whether this is a deliberate attempt to mislead, as they themselves are involved in “traditionally Gnostic” circles. However, when formulations are used that sound very similar to the biblical text but are twisted into the exact opposite, then the suspicion arises that this is being done deliberately.
Some striking core elements
Though beautifully packaged in numerous case studies and personal impressions, the true essence of the message is often not so easy to discern. Generated doubts and misconceptions are sneaked in through the back door. Sometimes almost all of the following examples are addressed, as if a checklist had been worked through.
- The world was created by God the Father and through God the Father (without Jesus)
- “God Love” is not a punishing God!
- God is only love (justice is not mentioned)
- God’s justice (judgment, judgment, execution) is rejected as “insane”
- The Holy Spirit is not mentioned anywhere
- God is said to be inactive/uninvolved when rulers take their places
- The Bible is explained as partly the Word of God and partly tainted with human impressions. In any case, not entirely trustworthy
- Jesus Christ is reduced in His nature or quality

There are certainly those who would like God to have nothing to do with this (our) world, since they have their own claim (through fraud). It is also the same person who spread the rumor that God, out of sheer love, would not carry out any judgment at all. This convinced the dreamers he had led by the nose that rebellion against God could indeed lead to a “good end.”
Consistent with this is the questioning of the truthfulness of the Bible, since the “grand finale” is ultimately contained in the form of a prophecy. It is also the same person who formulated the thesis about a deity IN creation. Thus, God is IN his own creation and will therefore never harm this creation, since otherwise he would harm himself. However, this is the pantheism practiced by pagan peoples for millennia.
It is also the same person who wanted to see the essence or nature of Jesus Christ reduced, because Jesus Christ is the declared archenemy of “that person”.
This “like and the same” refers to the great adversary, also known as Satan. What repeatedly shines through as the core of the above formulations is nothing other than the advocacy of the teachings of the one the Bible calls “the ancient serpent, the devil, and Satan.” Not by force, but in the name of the “love of God,” heartbreaking and appealing to people’s emotions. Somewhere in the midst of a sappy faith accompanied by emotional surges, but miles away from the pragmatically simple and clear truth of God’s Word. This is exactly how seduction works.
The Bible is the only standard
It is and remains the Bible, the Word of God, which is the only standard. What else? Ideas that have developed over centuries and long-standing human traditions? “Only partially credible” or “it contains the Word of God” are popular theses. God is thus incapable of revealing His will to humanity and preserving His truth even in turbulent times. Indeed, the Word of God is under massive attack (Info).

It’s as if the Scriptures were a kind of modular system, in which the characters are named, along with a few character traits, and everyone can cobble together their favorite gospel. Everything that’s acceptable is adopted, the rest is left out, declared incompatible. How convenient! The main thing is that you feel good about it.
But if such imaginative and emotionally charged narratives can be refuted by the Bible’s statements, such “theologies” can safely be thrown in the trash. The adversary’s attacks, and this must always be remembered, do not come with drums, trumpets, and tridents, but with honey smeared around the mouth, ego-stroking, and sweet phrases. Added to this is the attempt to induce a guilty conscience by making unfounded accusations, yet practicing these accusations themselves.
You just have to stay pragmatic and, above all, “stubborn with the writing”.
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
