Higher Regional Court took a different view

Proceedings against Latzel are being extended
The evangelical pastor Olaf Latzel from the St. Martini congregation in Bremen still has to endure legal proceedings. The Bremen Higher Regional Court upheld the public prosecutor’s appeal and referred the case back to the regional court. Now the proceedings have to be reopened by another appeals chamber. In May 2022, the first chamber acquitted the pastor of “charges of hate speech“.
The fine of EUR 90 at 90 daily rates (EUR 8,100) imposed by the court of first instance is thus still hanging over Latzel. If the fine is refused, the theologian faces 90 days imprisonment. The pastor appealed the verdict. Contrary to the view of the district court, the regional court had a different opinion and acquitted Latzel of the accusation of “incitement of the people”. The public prosecutor did not want to accept this and appealed. With today’s ruling by the Higher Regional Court, the “circle” starts all over again.
Not every attitude will be tolerated
The evangelical pastor positions himself clearly against same-sex marriage and also rejects the ordination of women. Among other things, Latzel called for following the example of the biblical Gideon, who was commissioned to destroy all pagan objects. Today this can be done by throwing out amulets, talismans and also Buddha statues from the apartments. For Latzel, Buddha is an “old, fat gentleman”. Catholic relics are “dirt” and Islam’s “sugar festival” is “nonsense”. However, Latzel expressly placed himself before the people, no matter what religion they pursued. The sinner is to be accepted, but the sin is to be rejected. It is “our task to really meet them with charity”.
Ironclad Defense of the Gospel
In fact, Olaf Latzel defends the clear statements of Holy Scripture. It is understandable that this is not well received in various “woken” circles. Godlessness is based on one’s own moral concepts, and this will one day be fatal. It is therefore important to pay particular attention to the ongoing developments surrounding the self-proclaimed “the highest moral apostle” in Rome. Its aim is to lead people to their doom with melodious words of “love and understanding”. Its aim is to lead people to their doom with melodious words of “love and understanding”. The institutions around the Evangelical Churches in Germany (EKD) are heavily involved in this.
