Nothing in the Bible is accidental – everything makes sense “somehow”

Reading, and especially studying, the Bible requires the fundamental attitude that Scripture is not a matter of arbitrary and random content, but rather a coherent whole. Simply skimming through it without further thought will not help us grasp and understand the Word of God as such. Every single word has a reason and meaning.

There’s absolutely nothing random about it.

The Bible was written by more than 40 different authors over a period of approximately 1,600 years. “A collection of writings by patriarchal men who expressed their worldview and impressions in the form of a God and his Son,” according to the view of “Bible-critical” contemporaries. However, if you only read the Bible in individual excerpts, perhaps even those passages that selectively confirm your own argument, then you only see a single excerpt, but never even close to the whole.

The following figure shows how “randomly and arbitrarily” the more than 40 authors wrote the books of the Bible over a period of a good 1,600 years, on different continents, and each with different cultural backgrounds.

Bible Cross-References
‘Bible Cross-References’ — by Chris Harrison

Does this look like chaos, or are there clear structures and a certain order? Each arc describes a parallel or reference within the Bible. On the far left is the beginning of the Bible with the books of Moses, and on the far right is the Book of Revelation. This graphic was created in 2007 by Chris Harrison and Christoph Römhild (a Lutheran pastor). Both took a Bible and drew a corresponding connecting line for each cross-reference, totaling 63,779 cross-references. (Source).

Nothing comparable exists.

Just imagine. Going back 1,600 years from today (2025) would bring you to the year 425. In that year, or shortly before, Moses would have written his first book (Genesis). And just “last week” John would have completed the Book of Revelation on the island of Patmos. Thus, a period from the still-existing ancient Roman Empire to the present day.

Is there anything even remotely comparable, in which a compiled book of different writings, in different languages, by different people in different eras and countries, ultimately exhibits such inherent coherence? One “only” needs to go back a good 500 years and pick up an original text by Martin Luther. Reading and understanding what is written is a real challenge.

The idea of ”inspired by the Holy Spirit” immediately comes within reach. For coherence directly presupposes an author who was active “in the background” over a long period of time.

Therefore, there is absolutely nothing arbitrary or random in the Bible. Everything has its meaning and its reason. Even individual terms, names, especially symbolic representations, their connections, and their interplay with the situations or circumstances described, have explicit meanings. Alternating word choices are not embellishments in a novel, and repetitions are not a lack of imagination. There is “some” very specific meaning that will only become apparent through constant study of the Bible. Seemingly inconspicuous things sometimes even have a central significance.

Seemingly inconspicuous details – example

You should take a closer look

When reading the Bible, one may “stumble” upon the following passage in Revelation 14. A (first) angel appeared and, among other things, had the following proclamation (Revelation 14:7 – part of the 3 angels’ message – Info):
Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

You might take note and continue reading. Therefore, quality over quantity is especially important. It’s pointless to engage in a daily “marathon reading” without reflecting on what you’ve read. Reflect on what you’ve read, on every aspect if possible. This is also the Christian principle of meditation, the exact opposite of “Far Eastern” meditation: Fill your head with valuable things instead of completely emptying your thinking apparatus.

Heaven – Earth – Sea – Springs of Water

The last section of this verse deserves emphasis here. It contains “heaven, earth, sea, and springs of water.” God made these things, that is, everything between heaven and under the sea.

Another passage in the Bible makes this clear again, Revelation 10:6:
And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:

Of course, these elements can also be found in the creation account (Genesis 1), beginning with heaven and earth. This is followed by the sea, the land, and then these spaces are filled with celestial bodies and all kinds of life.

The antagonists in the same area

This can be particularly striking when, in other passages of the Bible, a fiery red dragon is described in heaven (Daniel 12:3), a beast rises from the sea (Revelation 13:1), another beast emerges from the earth (Revelation 13:11), and a more precisely described harlot sits on or in the waters (Revelation 17:15). The dragon in heaven, the beast from the sea, the beast from the earth and the harlot in the waters are all opponents of God or Jesus Christ and His message of salvation.

God created heaven, earth, sea, and springs of water, and the Adversary and his minions are everywhere in these repeatedly mentioned environments. This commonality is not without reason, for it points to the central theme, what this is all about and where the final actions of this world will lead. Who is the true God and Creator, and whose authority do I recognize? The actual, only living God, or the “great” Adversary, who claims this position for himself and wants to establish his own throne above the stars of the far north?

Recognition of authority should be visible

Recognition of true authority

The recognition of the true God is inextricably linked to obedience to Him, and thus automatically to the observance of His law (10 Commandments – Info). True obedience and adherence to God’s law are inevitably also evident in the visible outward appearance. One’s own actions or omissions either confirm or contradict the claimed motive. “By their fruits you will know them,” is the apt description in Matthew 7:20..

One’s own actions, the fulfillment of God’s will, thus testify to one’s own recognition of the authority of the true God and thus the Creator of all things. This applies not in part, but in its entirety. Thus, not to the 8th or 9th, but to all 10 Commandments. One commandment expresses the recognition of God’s authority, and this is exclusively in the Fourth Commandment (Exodus 20:8-11). This commandment contains the following part:
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Creator-God’s Symbols of Authority Faked

It is clearly evident that the attributes of heaven, sea, earth, and water (springs) in the various aspects are anything but randomly chosen and repeated. They clearly point to creation, to the Creator, and thus also to the exclusive authority of the true Creator. Roughly speaking, the entire dilemma in this world revolves around precisely this authority, which the adversary seeks to contest from the true Creator-God with all his might and all (un)imaginable means.

Since the 7th day of the week, the true biblical Sabbath, blessed and sanctified by God, is the clear mark of God’s authority, the adversary has established his own special day to reflect his own (desired) authority (Info). Therefore, with the emergence and subsequent spread of Christianity, the biblical Sabbath was also the adversary’s first target of attack. This was done with the active support of his earthly accomplices (Info)..

Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
