In Germany, the number of so-called abortions increased by 2.2 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year, according to a report from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). This means that a total of around 106,000 unborn children were aborted in Germany in 2023. In the previous year, the increase compared to 2021 was 9.9 percent. In 2022 the number was around 202,000 and in 2021 around 95,000 killings of unborn children. The level has remained at about the same level in recent years. The highest number was in 2012 with around 107,000 abortions.
Around 70 percent of the cases in 2023 affected women between the ages of 18 and 34. In the 35 to 39 age group, the proportion was 19 percent. Women older than 40 accounted for 8 percent in 2023. Teenagers under the age of 18 accounted for 3 percent of all cases. In 42 percent of all 106,000 prenatal infanticides in 2023, the first pregnancy occurred.
Pharma’s “gold mine”
In 96 percent of all abortions carried out in Germany in 2023, there was prior consultation. Only 4 percent of all cases had a medical reason or a sexual offense. 84 percent of the procedures were carried out in surgical centers or doctor’s offices, and 14 percent were carried out in a hospital for outpatient treatment. 48 percent of the measures involved mechanical interventions (suctions) and 38 percent of the cases were carried out with the medication Mifegyne®.
The manufacturer or distributor of the product Mifegyne® is the company Nordic Pharma Suisse. The company’s headquarters are in Ismaning, south of Munich, in Germany (Source).
Current legal situation
In principle, abortion is a criminal offense in Germany (Section 218 of the Criminal Code). As a rule, the limit is set until the 12th week of pregnancy and is only exempt from punishment if advice from a state-recognized counseling center has taken place beforehand. Abortions at a later date are only permitted in special cases (Source).
Probably not enough

With 106,000 abortions per year, this was an average of 290 abortions per day in 2023 and therefore also 290 consultations per day. For the pharmaceutical company, this meant selling at least 40,280 tablets per year, or 110 per day.
As if this were not enough, people have been calling for Section 218 to be deleted for many years. The current regulation is a “rotten compromise,” according to abortion advocates. The demands now say that the “right to one’s own body” must finally be established. A fundamental legalization of the killing of unborn children up to the end of the 3rd month of pregnancy is being discussed.
The Evangelical Church of Germany (EKD) declared in October 2023 that in view of the “right to abortion”, the unborn child only has an increasing right to life (Info). The federal government is apparently preparing for an increasing number of killings of unborn children, as a compulsory training program for abortions is being discussed for aspiring doctors (Info).
Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
