Far more than just 3 theaters of war in the world

The media’s focus on isolated crisis areas around the world obscures the true extent of the global unrest. Everything revolved around Russia and Ukraine, then shifted to Israel and Gaza, and finally a little further east, with a focus on Iran. But there are far more than just three theaters of war.

Flying conflict change

Over the past two years or so, the media has been flooded with reports on crisis zones with armed conflicts. In 2023, almost in the smooth transition from the pandemic declared over, the headlines shifted to reports on the war between Ukraine and Russia. In a broader sense, as they more or less support Ukraine, the EU countries and the USA are also involved. The death toll so far is estimated at around 173,000 to 390,000 people.

With the outbreak of the violent clashes between Israel and the Gaza Strip, media headlines also shifted. They have now shifted their focus to the war between Israel and Iran. A constant “fluid transition” from one conflict to the next. This is likely to continue.

In addition to the military clashes between Israel and Iran currently being reported in all media outlets, this can be described as a new event in the ongoing conflict that has been ongoing since 1948. The countries involved in the so-called Arab-Israeli conflict, in addition to Israel and Iran, are Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Yemen. To date, the death toll is approximately 265,000.

Myanmar

The ongoing conflict in Myanmar, which has now escalated into a full-blown civil war, did not begin just a few years ago. Since 1948, skirmishes have alternated within a never-stabilized situation. The death toll is only roughly estimated, between approximately 28,000 and nearly 200,000.

Jihad

Jihadist insurgencies are also commonplace. Since 2002, approximately 456,000 deaths have been recorded in Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Togo, and Tunisia.

Sudan

In 2008, armed conflict broke out in Sudan. Sudan and South Sudan have been fighting each other ever since, resulting in between 600,000 and 1,100,000 deaths on both sides.

Ethiopia

A civil war has been raging in various regions of Ethiopia since 2018. Between 500,000 and 610,000 people have fallen victim to this war.

Colombia

For more than 60 years (beginning in 1964), the Colombian conflict has raged between Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador. Nearly 460,000 people have been killed so far.

Afghanistan

After World War II, Afghanistan returned to the headlines when the Soviet Union invaded the country in an effort to gain access to a permanently ice-free ocean. Further conflicts followed, including one involving Pakistan. The clash between the so-called Islamic State (IS) and the Taliban also resulted in numerous deaths. Estimating the number of deaths in this still-unsettled country seems difficult. The number ranges between 380,000 and 2,800,000 people.

Somalia

A conflict in which the United States was also (officially) involved began in Somalia in 1991. After years of chaos, a dispute with Kenya still persists. The death toll is estimated at between 365,000 and 1,000,000.

Nigeria

Nigeria repeatedly makes headlines when individual villages, especially those inhabited by Christians, are razed to the ground. Since 1998, including the conflict with Cameroon, nearly 105,000 deaths have been recorded.

Congo

The Congolese conflict is one of the long-running conflicts in Africa that has been ongoing for over 20 years. The countries involved are the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, and the Central African Republic. Approximately 212,000 people have lost their lives to date.

Syria

The civil war in Syria began in 2011. Internal conflicts between rival tribes, Turkish intervention, clashes with Hezbollah, and the fight against the Islamic State resulted in some 656,000 deaths. Lebanon, Iraq, and Israel were also involved.

Yemen

A civil war has raged in Yemen since 2014. Initially in the media, it has now completely disappeared from most people’s memory. The countries involved are Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates.

Cameroon

As if the conflict with Nigeria weren’t enough, Cameroon is also ravaged by an internal civil war. This is partly a legacy of the former colonial “protecting powers” France and Great Britain. Since 2012, nearly 10,000 people have died in this conflict.

Haiti

The death toll in the Haitian crisis is of a similar magnitude. Full-blown gang warfare caused a good 10,000 deaths.

Mexico

The drug war in Mexico, which has been ongoing since 2006, is not just a “small gang war,” but a hotbed of real battles. The estimated number of victims is between 127,000 and 415,000.

Kurds

For more than 100 years (beginning in 1918), the area surrounding the settled Kurds has experienced no peace. Conflicts with Turkey and Iran, in their variations with Hezbollah and separatists, have resulted in up to nearly 179,000 deaths.

Jamaika

Jamaica, repeatedly in the headlines due to the effects of natural disasters, but less so due to internal political unrest. No final settlement since 1943, and approximately 1,700 deaths.

India

Since the beginnings of India liberated from British imperialism and the newly founded Pakistan, this region has never truly experienced peace. Military conflicts between the two countries have flared up repeatedly, as was the case in May/June 2025. The death toll since 1947 is estimated at up to 2,000,000 people.

Further sources of fire and potential

War-Peace
More wars in sight

There are currently at least 42 wars or conflicts worldwide that go beyond the “minor” level. In addition, there are border conflicts, even small-scale ones, such as those between India and China, Thailand and Cambodia, which nevertheless have the potential to escalate into full-blown war. The sword of Damocles also hangs over Taiwan in relation to mainland China, as well as over tensions between China and the Philippines (indirectly the USA).

The number of actual ongoing conflicts and skirmishes is significantly higher than 42. In addition, there are many small pockets of unrest within the country, particularly in border areas between various countries, such as Thailand and Malaysia, Morocco and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.

In major EU cities, such as Paris and London, as well as overseas in Los Angeles, and recently in the Far East, pressure is clearly mounting among the populations, who, for various reasons, are marching through the streets in protest, sometimes looting and leaving behind burned cars and buildings. However, the media is very reserved in this regard.

Described in Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21

One can safely say, without exaggeration, that the world is sizzling and bubbling in every corner. Also not to be overlooked is the increasing number of destructive natural forces, such as hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. Not to mention the extreme famines in chronically crisis-ridden regions, especially Africa.

Matthew 24:7 describes the “time of the end” as follows:
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

Further details are described in Luke 21:9-11:
But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

The parallel passage in Mark 13:7-8 is largely identical to the passage in Luke. Three Gospels point to what Jesus Christ describes on the Mount of Olives at the time of the end. This underlines the explosive nature of the issue.

The focus on the conflicts in the Middle East also has the potential to support the erroneous teachings about a premature rapture of the Christian community (Info) and a supposed 1,000-year kingdom of peace on earth (Info).

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
