The Jesus Christ that is generally proclaimed today is a pure zeitgeist Jesus and has almost nothing in common with the Jesus Christ of the Bible. Pretty much all aspects and purposes of the true Son of God have now been turned upside down. This is for the “common good”.

Zeitgeist Jesus versus Jesus of the Bible
The Jesus announced today seems to have floated about 3cm above the ground during his wanderings, full of drunken love, gentle words and tender caresses. A negative word never came from his lips, let alone a hurtful criticism. Everything will be fine. However, such a Jesus never existed. (More details “modern Jesus“)
Zeitgeist Jesus | Biblical Jesus |
Promises wealth and health | Promises hope, (inner) peace, salvation |
Sermon about world peace and love | Sermon on God’s Justice |
Does not express negative sentiments | Names the sin, calls for repentance and conversion, warns of judgment |
Is accepted and loved by the world | Is rejected and hated by the world |
Serves the will of man | Explains the will of God |
Does not attack anyone and is never “hurtful” | The world feels attacked by his truth |
Promises wealth and health
Some of the proclamations put into the mouths of God or Jesus Christ could also come directly from a calendar with new sayings and “wisdom of life” every day. Some TV preachers from the Pentecostal or charismatic corner also seem to be more “motivators and tipsters” for a successful life than proclaimers of God’s word.
Sermons that people like because they sound so beautiful, confirm, give hope for a Lamborghini and also hardly require any changes in life. Those worldly things with which people hope to gain the recognition or even admiration of their fellow human beings.
However, the Jesus Christ of the Bible explains to people that they are hopelessly lost if they continue on their current path and do not lift a finger to even begin to create the conditions so that they are worthy of being awarded the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Jesus’ first words at the beginning of His ministry, after His baptism and 40 days of fasting, were, “Repent!” But all of this seems “too strenuous” and also “much too exotic”. That didn’t fit into the image of today’s society at all and you don’t want to step out of character.
Sermon about world peace and love
A very noble idea, world peace. But completely out of the question in this current world. The “prince of this world” is the adversary of God and he only wants death and destruction of all of God’s creation, including man and mouse. This is done through lies, deceit, presumption, violence and barely transparent seduction. World peace is out of the question here, because the earthly enforcer of the adversary, the papacy, is busy with all hands and tentacles in turning the dragon’s will into reality.
Unfortunately with success, but also announced based on biblical prophecy so that people are warned, or could be warned (Info). To do this, however, people would have to get out of their comfort zone, open their eyes and be ready to accept the truth.
Jesus Christ spoke about peace, but He certainly didn’t mean peace in this world. He ensures man’s inner peace, led and guided by the Holy Spirit (see Galatians 5:22). Jesus Christ even categorically ruled out wanting to ensure peace in this world, Matthew 10:34-36:
“Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.“
The Zeitgeist Jesus doesn’t lose a syllable about God’s eternal justice. “Everything will be fine,” every person will be accepted into the kingdom of heaven after purification (Info). But the avoided reality will be that the vast majority of people will fall straight down the abyss and cease to exist.
Thus the complete opposite of how today’s zeitgeist Jesus is often portrayed.
Doesn’t express itself negatively
A plush teddy Jesus Christ, who spreads His good news as a “privileged prophet” with a gentle voice. “Think Pink” and everything is fine. There is hardly any mention of negative news. The trump card is a Jesus who tells people that all they have to do is believe in his existence and thereby achieve salvation.
“Repent, turn back!” This warning message is the common thread throughout the gospel. “Walk in God’s path” was the call of the prophets in the Old Testament. “But we don’t want to,” was the answer from the masses. Jesus Christ wept over Jerusalem as he entered that city for the Passover. These people didn’t want to either and their fate was sealed by the complete destruction of this city in 70 AD
Court? Oh what! God’s judgment will be that He makes all people aware of their sins. They suffer from it and are purified by it. In the end everyone goes to paradise. At least that is the generally acceptable tenor. But believers in the “secret pre-rapture” (Info) are not aware that the judgment has already taken place when Jesus returns. Which is completely logical.
When Jesus Christ returns, He will have a reward for everyone according to their works. The redeemed are resurrected or transformed and the “rest” remains lying or dies. Isn’t it therefore completely clear that the verdict must already have been pronounced? Apparently it’s a logical conclusion for few people.
Is accepted and loved by the world
The mass gatherings with tens of thousands of people holding their hands up and shouting Jesus prove it. An all-loving, all-forgiving Jesus is ultimately accepted and welcomed with open arms. Jesus Christ died on the cross and thus forgave all sins.
Yes and no! Although Jesus Christ bought the right to be able to forgive sins while maintaining justice, this does not happen according to an automatic assembly line. The demons also believe in one God, but they tremble, as in James 2:19. What good does it do for demons if they believe, even know about God, but still don’t do God’s will?
The Jesus Christ of the gospel is hated by the world. Because He is not this all-forgiving cuddly prophet, but someone who warns, admonishes and calls for a complete change in character, including giving up the previous lifestyle. He also expresses himself in a “negative” and even “threatening” way. The only possible way of salvation through Jesus Christ (John 14:6) goes completely against the grain of man’s worldly desires. Anyone who questions the comfort of the carnal must be the personal enemy.
Jesus Christ was rejected and hated as a human being by the vast majority during His lifetime. This also applies to the period afterwards and will continue to be so in the future, especially as long as the papacy and its division, the Roman Catholic Church, exist. The same thing happens to people who keep His commandments and bear His testimony,Matthew 10:22:
“And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.“
Serves the will of man
Flattering someone and smearing honey around their mouths have always been effective ways of numbing people into a false sense of security. If the worldly person wants a house, a farm, a car, a motorcycle, success and a high income, they simply let the zeitgeist Jesus “preach” about how one can achieve such a happy and successful life.
The sin (defined by the 10 Commandments – Info) is put aside because it is only a nuisance. The laws were nailed to the cross anyway, so why even worry about it? After all, we are all under grace. What a mistake (Info).
A passage from the Bible describes the situation today perfectly,2. Timothy 4:3-4:
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.“
This is particularly impressively demonstrated in the USA. Not the Bible-believing pastors and congregations, but the fantasy-filled screamers about the Holy Spirit, fulfillment, salvation and miraculous powers are the multimillionaires who are able to conjure up a credit card from the pockets of their cheering masses with just a small gesture. These so-called mega-churches are regularly packed.
The will of God, on the other hand, “keep my commandments, care for the poor, do justice and help the helpless to receive justice, sell everything and give to the poor, etc.” is frowned upon, rejected and despised. “There is nothing new under the sun,” said the wise saying of King Solomon. Nothing has lost its topicality.
Then as now,Jeremiah 6:16:
“Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.“
Does not attack anyone and is never “hurtful”
A cute-fluffy Jesus, with the nature of a plush toy, will of course not address anyone harshly in order to upset them due to “intolerance”. When cleaning up the temple, the zeitgeist Jesus probably just symbolically twirled his specially made whip in the air while he lazily breathed on the money changers to please leave the scene.
The zeitgeist Jesus will also have announced the entire magazine of “hypocrites” (Matthew 23) sent against the Pharisees and scribes in a soprano voice. In any case, scribes see these as merely “words put into the mouth” of the unknown author who claimed to be Matthew.
It’s just “motley” what kind of “theology” is out there. According to our zeitgeist, a Jesus should of course not hurt, attack, or be discriminatory, but rather tender, empathetic, infinitely tolerant and understanding. After all, criticism is intellectual violence, exclusionary, divisive. This should never, ever apply to Jesus.
Just as the younger generation in particular is calibrated to relativize any absolute truth and condemn a counter-argument as division and discrimination, the world also feels attacked when a “Jesus of the Bible comes along” and proclaims “His” truth. This could only be a frontal attack and must therefore be completely rejected. At this point the “tolerance” ended, and one wallows in the oxymoron of “tolerance given for everything and everyone, but intolerant towards the intolerant”.
Therefore, it is almost automatic that every person who proclaims the truth of the Gospel, bears the testimony of Jesus and also has the “audacity” to keep God’s commandments contrary to the “common good” is declared an enemy of society and the entire morass of sheer hatred will be thrown at him.
Not exactly a flaky prospect, but that is exactly what Jesus Christ himself predicted. And that’s how it will happen. The signs of such developments are already clearly visible today.
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
