Was God’s 10 commandments only from Sinai or before?

Berg Sinai

Deutsch

Since when have the 10 commandments of God apply? The handover of the 10 commandments from God to Moses on Mount Sinai is very well known. So after Israel’s move out of slavery in Egypt. The extensive view is therefore that God therefore only determined his 10 bids from this point in time. However, this does not apply.

Mount Sinai as the starting point for God’s laws?

2. Moses 19 describes how Moses was called by the Lord on the mountain Sinai. Moses stayed there for a total of 40 days. In Chapter 20, Moses receives the 10 commandments, written by God himself in 2 stone boards. This is the end of the laws of God?

A linked argument of those who think that the 10 Commandments only came into force from the event on the Mount of Sinai, is the limited validity of the 10 commandments for the people of Israel, or the Jewish people. The second is a diluted argument anyway because the people of Israel consisted of 12 tribes that consisted of Jakob’s sons. One of them was the Juda tribe and the Jewish people are also derived. The Jewish people are therefore part of the people of Israel, but not quite Israel belongs to the Juda tribe.

If the 10 commandments of God only have been met for the people of Israel, only from the Sinai mountain, then “complacent” the question of whether the 10 commandments were binding for the Christians at all. In most churches today, the 10 bids are still kept up. So the question was actually unnecessary whether they are valid for Christians. However, the 10 Commandments of God appear in the textbooks of the Church in a modified form, which, with the description of the Commandments in 2nd Moses 20 and 5. Moses 5, have long since appeared (Info).

Reflections on fundamental

Jesus script
Jesus Christ increased the law

First of all, some fundamental considerations have to be made to recognize the relationships. First of all, since a non-comprehensible separation between God-father and Jesus Christ is drawn in relation to the laws, two clear statements about this:

Colossians 1:15-17:
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Jesus Christ himself in John 14:15:
If ye love me, keep my commandments.

10 Commandments are reflected in the character of God

The 10 Commandments of God are a reflection of God’s character. This character consists above all of his love. On the one hand of the medal there are the laws, on the other side of the same medal the “love Commandments” can be found (love God and your neighbor). Both are inseparable. Because, who actually loves God and his neighbor, keeps the commandments of God with it (automatically). One who loves his neighbor will not want to harm any kind. It is also towards God with true love. Who would come up with the idea of wanting to worship other gods or idols? (Info). Paul summarized it:

Romans 13:10:
Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

God’s character is unchangeable

God or Jesus Christ does not change. Yesterday, as today, as well as tomorrow. Always the same, without character changes. What God has promised also applies, He complies with it. In contrast to the people (Info).

Malachi 3:6:
For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Hebrews 13:8:
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

No law – no sin

Law
Are God’s laws abolished?

The everyday situation for people is the best example. Is theft allowed or forbidden? Who, where, says what about it? Laws were formulated for this. It says in the German Criminal Code, §242:
(1) Anyone who takes away a strange movable thing with another with intention to grasp the matter or a third party is punished with imprisonment for up to five years or with a fine.
(2) The attempt is punishable.

Understood. The impending sentence in the event of disregard or violation of this law is also named. Ergo, theft is prohibited. Clearly defined and publicly visible.

Therefore, the good citizen knows that there is a law that prohibits the fact of theft. Nevertheless stolen and caught, the judge will take this paragraph into account and execute this paragraph in the penal code. However, if there were no such law, the judge would have to release the thief, because it would not have violated an existing law. “Stolen? Well, there is no law. Review!”.

So also sin. What is sin? 1. John 3:4:
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
Where action exists according to lawlessness, there must also be a law. Exactly, namely the 10 Commandments of God. It would be a paradox to speak of sin without existing or “still valid” laws.

The thesis that the 10 commandments of God were lifted lifted, therefore led to a total contradiction. These confusion primarily includes the flat -rate claim that “we only live under grace” (Info).

First law on the 7th day of creation

In summary, it is now clear that the laws of God reflect His character (Mark 12:30-31), God is still unchangeable (Hebrews 13:8) and therefore also His laws have always been incredibly determined, and that sin is defined by the laws of God (1. John 3:4).

All of this indicates that God’s law had existed long before the law on Mount Sinai. In fact, the first mentioned law appears immediately after creation, Genesis 2:2-3:
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

The Sabbath Commandment (Exodus 20:8-11), which is the only requirement to have the attribute “Remember” and appear on the 2 stone tablets as a 4th Commandment. Immediately after creation, however, there were only 2 people. From an Israel or a tribe of Juda far and wide nothing in sight (Info).

Clear indications of long -valid laws

Justice
The forgotten righteousness of God

Some arguments that advocate abolished laws concern “lack of mentions and memories” by Jesus Christ in the New Testament. If Jesus did not explicitly mention this or that law as valid, then they were invalid. Just as if these apologists asked for a regular memory of existing state laws, otherwise they are no longer valid. Or do they go to those “no longer recognized”? However, a law has only been abolished regularly if another officially announced law cancel the other law. So a “termination law”. However, such cancellations are completely lacking in the New Testament.

But be careful! You shouldn’t throw all laws into a common pot as you like. There is a fundamental difference between the 10 Commandments of God and the moses of ceremonial laws (Info).

The Old Testament offers some examples that have long been evidenced by God’s legislative law before the event on Mount Sinai.

Cain hit Abel

The very well -known incident that Cain was able to capture his younger brother Abel for reasons of jealousy was a crime. “Murder for low motives” would be called this act today. Why? Because there is a law against ending life for other people. So was the crime of Cain’s violation of … yes, what? … a valid law. That is why the crime had consequences for Cain. Because if there had been no law against it, any consequences would be pure arbitrariness.

Flood

In Genesis 6:5, God described humanity for through and through evil. The result was the Flood. Except for 8 people, Noah and his family, all other people have been killed. What is “bad” or what did people violate? There must have been laws, because otherwise people could not have known what actions are evil and which are righteous.

Commandments of Purity

The earth, its vegetation and climatic conditions, were fundamentally changed with the Flood. Meat food was not an issue at all before the Flood. Only in the time after the deluge gave God the consumption of meat. For this, also new rules, long before Sinai, had to be determined according to the circumstances. However, this did not fundamentally choose the choice of animals, but their use or preparation.

Because the definition of which animals are pure and what impure was already determined before the Flood. Because according to these criteria, Noah should set the number of animal pairs. From this context you can already see that the determination of pure and impure animals was determined long before the period of the desert hike of Israel. And, by the way, are valid to this day (Info).

Tower building in Babel

Nimrod, the “first tyrant on earth” gathered the people around and wanted to unite them for the joint worship of false gods. The organized rebellion against God (today ecumenism – Info ). The tower, built with waterproof roasted stones and tar, served as a symbol for the self -increasing of humans. They did evil with it. But how should you know that the adoration of false gods is something bad if there was not a law, a provision against it? This would correspond to the first two commandments, only the true creator god alone and no idols (idols, portraits, etc.)

Melchizedek – High Priest

A very mysterious appearance is the high priest Melchizedek, high priest of the highest and King of Salem (Info). Abraham met Melchizedek and handed it over to the tithe (Genesis 14:17-24). Although it is nowhere written for the reader of the Bible. In addition, Abraham found grace before God (Genesis 4:3). Grace for what? Mercy is only necessary if an actually just punishment is appropriate. But for what if there had been no law that could have been crossed?

Melchizedek was a priest. Long before the rules that were given to the people of Israel in the desert (Leviticus). A priest has the task of standing between man and God as an intermediary. Offering to sins and guilt. But sins and guilt for what if there was no law?

These relationships clearly show the following. People had had a law long ago before Sinai.

Sodom and Gomorrha

The region around Sodom and Gomorrha was equated with God to the ground. Why? Because the people there were evil. Only the nephew of Abraham, Lot, and his wife and two daughters were saved. The people in the region of both metropolises have long since left any morality. Whose moral requirements? That of God, and thus also His laws.

Joseph did not want to violate God’s law

Joseph was sold to Egypt by his brothers. He was a servant in an Egyptian household. That was long before the 10 Commandments on the mountain Sinai. The hostin tried to seduce Joseph. His answer (Genesis 39:9):
…how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

And again. Sin, misdeed? So there must have been a law. Specifically, this affects the general fornication and, above all, the Commandment against adultery. Because the woman was married.

The law was certain from the garden of Eden

Passah-Lamm
Das Opferlamm – Symbol für Jesus Christus

No laws, no violation and therefore no sin. But the examples or events long before the Sinai mountain all indicate that the unchangeable God informed his character of the character. So his laws. Contemporaries also mean no addition or removal of individual laws over time. It must again be emphasized that the 10 commandments are mentioned here and not of the ceremonial laws.

Abel was killed by Cain because of jealousy. God took Abel’s offer. However, Cain’s offer not. What was the difference? Abel did what God asked, the sacrifice of a flawless lamb. Kain, on the other hand, brought the yields of his vegetable and fruit fields.

A lamb? Who is symbolized by the sacrificial lamb? Jesus Christ. This means that the redemption route, including the existing laws, in the inclusion of the 4th commandment, was already certain in the Garden of Eden. This also indicates a striking statement in Revelation 10:7 :
But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

The “secret of God”, announced by the prophets as a message of salvation, is nothing more than the gospel that has long been stipulated. God predicted what would happen. The answer to the fall was Genesis 3:15:
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

“Adam and Eve just thrown out of the Garden of Eden,” said God the future Redeemer, who will crush the opponent’s head, i.e. Jesus Christ. This was followed by Abel, the victim service for the forgiveness of guilt and sin when a law was transferred.

The claim that God only determined his laws on the Mount Sinai and only the people of Israel, the Christian completely non -binding, is therefore an expression of the rebellion actually led against the creator!

And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 12:17
