Sieben

Deutsch

The number seven appears particularly frequently in the Bible, in a variety of ways and in various contexts. A list of all mentions in the Bible shows the special emphasis on the number seven.

T

he number seven represents the perfection of God. A six already represented an imperfection. The first “seven” in the Gospel describes a time, namely the seventh day of creation. In six days God created heaven and earth and everything on earth and on the seventh day God rested. This seventh day is also the first thing that God blessed and sanctified.

An extremely important period that remains valid to this day. The seventh day is the Sabbath (Saturday) and is ordained by God (Info). The disregard of this day and the introduction of Sunday observance as a substitute is a dictate of the Roman Catholic Church (Info).

The Seven also played an important role in Noah’s Ark. Not, as is often assumed, one pair of each animal, but one pair of each unclean animal and seven pairs of each clean animal, was the final order for Noah (Genesis 7:2).

While the first “seven” concerned creation, the “final seven” concerns the angels who will heap seven plagues on humanity in turn. And also on the new earth, the number seven will be retained with the sanctification of the seventh day, i.e. the Sabbath.
